Two kinds of rooms, two different briefs. On the main floor (the living room, the kitchen window and the slider between the kitchen and dining area), the windows needed to soften the light without shutting it out. In the primary bedroom, the job was the opposite: a room that goes dark for sleep. And every shade was to run on its own, from scenes and schedules rather than cords.
Six Norman Soluna roller shades, all motorized, in two fabrics chosen room by room.
Living room: Light-filtering Remy Dune shades, with two light-filtering drapery arrangements layered over them.
Kitchen-dining slider: Two Remy Dune shades sit beneath a single 4½-inch fabric valance with returns, so the wide opening reads as one window. The kitchen window takes the same fabric.
Primary bedroom: A room-darkening Lola Platinum shade, paired with room-darkening drapery.
The drapery panels measure 42 by 106 inches and hang from bronze rods, brackets and rings mounted just below the crown molding.
Six motorized roller shades and three drapery arrangements, installed by our own team and set up before we left. The shades run from the Norman Smart app on scenes and schedules, the remotes were programmed on site, and the homeowners got a walkthrough of the controls. By day the main floor stays soft and bright; at night the primary bedroom goes dark.
