The sons’ bedroom in this Manhattan apartment has one very wide opening, roughly 119 inches of glass looking out over the city. It brings sun glare, summer heat and very early mornings. The default answer for a window this wide is two shades butted together, which leaves a visible seam right at eye level and two separate controls to operate.
Instead the room was specified as a single continuous Lafayette Genesis roller shade in SheerWeave 2410, a 3% solar screen, at roughly 119 inches: one headrail, one fabric face, no seam. The screen cuts glare and heat and holds daytime privacy while keeping the light, and the skyline, in the room.
Operation: On a shade this wide, one switch versus one long chain is a real decision, so it was quoted both motorized and manual on identical fabric and size. It was installed motorized.
Phase one: This bedroom was the first room done; the rest of the apartment stays open for later, on the same specification.
Less glare, less heat. The view stays, and the boys sleep in. One uninterrupted fabric face runs the full width of the wall with nothing at eye level to break it, and the whole span raises and lowers together at the touch of a button.
