The Starting Point

Thirteen rooms, twenty-four windows, and almost nothing in common between them. The primary suite has a tray ceiling and three unrelated openings: an arched accent window, a double-hung over the dresser wall, and a tall window beside the bed. The nursery needed a shade that could do two opposite things, cheerful daylight when the room should be awake and a soft, restful glow for naps. The patio door is the hardest opening in any house: full-height glass, sliding access, and direct afternoon sun. The family also wanted to install in stages over time, which raised a quieter risk. Buy a house room by room over a couple of years and you end up chasing a dye lot that no longer exists.

The Design

One shade runs through the whole house: Portfolio Collection dual sheer in Marble Ivory, with a cassette valance and beige fabric insert, a fabric-wrapped bottom bar, and cordless operation. Its alternating sheer and opaque bands make light control continuous rather than on-or-off.

Primary suite: Running one fabric across all three windows makes them read as a set instead of three separate decisions. Pinch-pleat drapery on brass rods, drawn from a curated Ventus-selected group, adds the warmth a primary bedroom needs without competing with the shades.

Nursery: The same dual sheer covers both daylight and nap time with a single adjustment, and cordless operation is the only correct answer in a child's room.

Patio door: A single correctly sized dual sheer in cassette finish keeps the fabric slim against the glass and lifts cleanly when you step out to the yard.

Dining room: This is the one deliberate exception. Two stationary Lafayette D35 Highline panels in Mushroom flank the matched pair of tall windows to add height and frame the elevation. They are two-finger sta-pleated, lined in Chateau Sateen for body, and mounted on board returns with a 4″ return at 104 inches. Because they're stationary, nothing ever closes over the view.

The Result

A house that reads as one design, room after room. Every window moves from full daylight to filtered glow to private dusk by lifting an inch. The patio door shade lifts cleanly instead of becoming a heavy curtain you fight every time. Because all thirteen rooms were specified and priced up front, the fabric, cassette, and bottom bar stay identical from the first phase of installation to the last. The phases move at the family's pace; the specification doesn't move at all.
