This house had two floors with two very different jobs. Downstairs, the windows get looked at as much as looked through; they're part of each room's architecture. Upstairs, the bedrooms need to go fully dark, hold privacy after dark, and be operated twice a day from bed rather than from arm's reach. Most whole-home quotes pick one product and stretch it across every window. This project started by asking what each floor was actually for.
The answer was to split the house by floor.
Lower level: Norman Woodlore Plus shutters in Classic Black. A shutter is a built-in answer that reads as part of the house rather than something hung on it, and Classic Black makes that a deliberate choice instead of a default.
Upper level: Motorized ProDesign Arcadia roller shades in Bondi Onyx. They have a flat, quiet face that disappears when raised, and the motor means nobody is reaching for a chain at six in the morning.
Both featured rooms were rendered before anything was ordered, so the black-on-black decision was made looking at the actual windows, not a fabric sample under showroom light.
Each floor gets the treatment it needs, and color ties the house together even though nothing else matches. Classic Black below and Bondi Onyx above make the home read as one specification, despite different products, different mounting, and different operation.
